TEMPLE RELIEF

Provenance: funeral temple of Mentouhotem II, Deïr el-Bahari.
Middle Empire, XIth Dynasty, ca. 2000 B.C.
Acquired in 1936 from the Bissing Collection.
Munich, Staatliche Sammlung Ägyptischer Kunst.

In the overall framework of a festal procession on the walls of the highest terraces of the Temple of Hatchepsout, we can see the parade of a contingent of elite troupes. The soldiers are armed with bow and arrows in their right hand and a battle-axe in the left hand.
