STATUE OF QUEEN AMANIMALEL
Granite. Height. 141 cm, Width. 50 cm, Depth. 48
cm. Provenance : Djébel Barkal, temple B 700, trench A. Harvard
University - MFA Boston Expedition, April 1916, No. inv. 16-4-26. Napatine
period, 643-623 B.C. Khartum National Museum, No 1843.
The statue of the wife of King Sensamanisken, slightly
smaller than life-size, is one of the chefs-d'oeuvre of the Kingdom Of Napata.
It integrates a type of ancient Egyptian statuary into an independant stylistic
concept so perfectly that one can draw an artistic parallel identical with that
linking the Greek Kouros to its formal model, the Egyptian statue, in its
striding position.
