In Tune with the World
PARIS  •  Louis Vuitton Foundation  •  11 April - 27 August 2018

Throughout the galleries of the Frank Gehry building, In Tune with the World unveils a new selection of artists from the collection, of several different mediums, bringing together modern and contemporary works, most of which have never before been exhibited in these spaces.

Flesh | Meat
BERLIN  •  Altes Museum  •  1 June - 31 August 2018

When we think of flesh and meat, the first thing that comes to mind is usually food. But also our own bodies consist of meat. For thousands of years, meat has played a central role in cultural and ritual contexts as well. In short: meat is food, body, and cult. The transition from the realm of the living to the realm of the dead becomes apparent within it. In the exhibition, the relationship between men and meat as well as meat’s complex cultural connotations are presented while exploring the tensions surrounding the becoming and decay of flesh. The exhibition is interdisciplinary and spans the collections of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, including archaeological, ethnological, and art-historical objects from 5,000 years of human history.

Prototypology: An Index of Process and Mutation
ROME  •  Gagosian Gallery Rome  •  14 January - 2 April 2016

Prototypology explores research and development in the work of thirty contemporary artists, tracing the evolution from idea to finished artwork through drawings, archives, maquettes, and bricolage. In doing so the exhibition establishes a typology of diverse drafts.

The studio is a liminal zone for sourcing, modifying, and testing. Derived from the Italian word schizzare (splash), a "sketch" represents the initial impulse from mind to hand, the developmental process whereby form begins to emerge. In the laboratory of the studio, bricolage is often used as an instinctual method in the construction of prototypes.

The exhibition includes new works and archival material from Michael Heizer, Takashi Murakami, Albert Oehlen, and Robert Therrien, among other artists. Studies for sculptures by Dan Graham, Claes Oldenburg, Tatiana Trouvé, and Rachel Whiteread reveal moments of process that lead to epiphanies. Monumental, civic, everyday, and otherworldly gestures are visible in a range of preparatory drawings and proposals.

Artists: Vladimir Arkhipov, Richard Artschwager, Nina Beier, Will Boone, Mike Bouchet, Chris Burden, Jason Dodge, Aleksandra Domanović, Dan Graham, Loris Gréaud, Michael Heizer, Carsten Höller, Thomas Houseago, Allan McCollum, Takashi Murakami, Albert Oehlen, Claes Oldenburg, Steven Parrino, Giuseppe Penone, Kirsten Pieroth, Ry Rocklen, Nancy Rubins, Arcangelo Sassolino, David Smith, Rudolf Stingel, Robert Therrien, Mungo Thomson, Tatiana Trouvé, Cy Twombly, Rachel Whiteread

Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg: A Journey Through Mud and Confusion With Small Glimpses of Air
STOCKHOLM  •  Moderna Museet  •  16 June - 9 September 2018

Nathalie Djurberg’s animated worlds and Hans Berg’s electronic music conjure up scenes with a surrealistic approach. This summer, Moderna Museet features the internationally renowned duo’s stop motion films and spatial installations along with an entirely new VR piece. The exhibition describes an inner journey, an attempt to make existence more comprehensible in a flow of impulses and impressions.

Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg create animated worlds out of objects, music and moving images – dreamlike realities to immerse yourself in. Their playfully-told fables blend humour with darkness, suspending any moral laws of gravity. Their intense chamber pieces enact fragments of memories repressed between innocence and shame, or feverish daydreams of role play and desire. They topple accepted truths about man’s supremacy in nature and our habitual understanding of remembrance, time and space. Embedded in these works is a burlesque social critique that – sometimes literally – undresses the men of power, given hierarchies and social norms.
