The summer of 2002 sees the start of a cooperative arrangement between the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and De Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam. For three years, from 2002 to 2004, parts of the Stedelijk Museum’s collection will be on display in the summer in De Nieuwe Kerk.
This year an overview of some 80 sculptures from the Museum will be shown from 27 July. The selection covers the period 1947 to 2002. This presentation of modern sculpture in the Gothic architecture of the church includes works by among others John Chamberlain, Henry Moore, Karel Appel, Donald Judd, Anselm Kiefer, Jeff Koons, Bruce Nauman, Jannis Kounellis, Mario Merz, Guido Geelen and Damien Hirst. Beelden 1947-2002 Sculpture focuses on the last part of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century.
In 2003 and 2004 De Nieuwe Kerk will again draw attention to the Stedelijk Museum’s collection, through among other projects an extensive overview of video art.
