A hybrid of architecture, furniture and sculpture, Wexler's works examine both the social function and formal components of how things work. He manipulates functional objects like chairs and tables in such a way as to alter people's engagement with them. Instead of comfort, these transformed furnishings and model homes highlight the meaning of ritual and the sympbolic power of everyday objects.
Organised into six parts---Buckets, Sinks, Gutters; The Shape of Form/Geometry; Built Structures; Function; Construction Process; and Nature and Architecture--the exhibition includes "functional" and "nonfunctional" pieces, indoor and outdoor sturctures, furniture, models and porjects on paper from the past twenty years.
