The title of this exhibition (pleasure - pain) reflects the ambivalence of Brazilian culture and the richness of a body of work which blends creation and destruction and also a constant flux of photographs, paintings and installations. The brilliant colours and the sensuality of the light form a permanent dialogue with a darker side: the melancholy from which Latin American culture is never totally exempt. On view are paintings Miguel Rio Branco made during his stay in New York in the mid sixties: oil paintings for which he used collage techniques.
