Engaging topics from our unsettled world, Cai Guo-Qiang’s museum-wide installation entitled Inopportune investigates the meaning of heroism in the age of the suicide bomber. The highly theatrical exhibition comprises a wide range of media, including sculpture, video and drawing.
Cai Guo-Qiang, born in Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, China, in 1957, has lived in New York for the past decade and has long explored the beauty of destructive forces, in particular of explosions. Best known for his elaborate fireworks projects undertaken all over the world, he designed Inopportune for his American neighbors.
