NUREYEV: EVERYTHING HE EVER SAID OR DID

NEW YORK, 10 DECEMBER 2007

To: Patricia Boocadoro

I just read your November 26, 2007 review of J. Kavanagh's book on Rudolf Nureyev.  Bravo to you!  I am so upset by her book - she was obsessed with his private sex life, detailing every encounter. It was salacious and rude.  She wasn't much better than Diane Solway in describing the details of his horrid illness either.  These details are none of our business.

I am disgusted that his Foundations financed her book - and with his money!  I wish you had written his biography.  Every review of yours that I have read has been wonderful and classy.  Because of your review of Linda Maybarduk's terrific book about Rudolf, I purchased the book, and I loved it.

It's so sad that, as we approach the 15th anniversary of Rudolf's death, this biography is front and center.  I'm so glad that Clive Barnes recently re-released his wonderful book (from 1982), Nureyev.  It's unbelievable, isn't it, that it has been 15 years, and he would have turned 70 in 2008.

Thank you, Ms. Boccadoro, for putting into words exactly how I felt reading Kavanagh's book.
