JAZZ JOURNALISTS ANNOUNCE JAZZ AWARDS 2008 |

By Culturekiosque Staff NEW YORK, 23 JUNE 2008- Pianist Herbie Hancock (b. 1940) was named Musician of the Year at the 12th annual Jazz Awards on 18 June at a barbeque lunch at the Jazz Standard in New York. The Jazz Journalists Association's award for lifetime achievement in jazz went to the 90-year-old British-born pianist Marian McPartland. Based on votes cast by over 400 JJA members (writers, broadcasters, photograhers and new media professionals worldwide) the awards are as follows:
