Staff Report

NEW YORK, 28 September 2006—The sound and approach of Christian McBride is inextricably linked with that of Ray Brown, the late acoustic bassist who has influenced a generation of great young musicians.  Alongside drummer Greg Hutchinson and pianist Benny Green, McBride will pay tribute to Ray Brown with special guest vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater at the Blue Note in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, 3 - 8 October 2006 with sets at 8:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. nightly.

Recognized for decades as the world’s premier bassist, Ray Brown performed with numerous recording greats including Frank Sinatra, Billy Eckstine, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, and Peggy Lee.  His first New York gig was with the animated trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, and later he became the bassist in Oscar Peterson’s band, a gig that lasted from 1951 to 1966.
