LISBON, 22 September 2006â€” Starting tomorrow music meets technology at the 12th edition of
the MÃºsica Viva Festival in Lisbon. The month-long festival devoted
to contemporary music features works for small and large musical forces of
electronic music, chamber music, electro acoustic opera, voice and video. Fifty works will
be performed, forty of which will be receiving their Portuguese
premiÃ¨re, seventeen their world premiÃ¨re. Amongst these, twenty of the works to
be performed are by Portuguese composers, including fourteen world premiÃ¨res.
While manifestly the festival seeks to showcase
Portuguese talent, the programme also includes works by foreign composers
such as Magnus Lindberg, Karlheinz Stockhausen, the Paris-based Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho,
Morton Subotnick, France's Tristan Murail and Philippe Leroux among others.
Festival venues are spread out all over the Portugese capital and
include the Gulbenkian Foundation, the Franco-Portuguese Institute, the
JerÃ³nimos Monastery, the Maria Matos Theatre and the BelÃ©m Cultural
