LISBON, 22 September 2006— Starting tomorrow music meets technology at the 12th edition of the Música Viva Festival in Lisbon.  The month-long festival devoted to contemporary music features works for small and large musical forces of electronic music, chamber music, electro acoustic opera, voice and video. Fifty works will be performed, forty of which will be receiving their Portuguese première, seventeen their world première.  Amongst these, twenty of the works to be performed are by Portuguese composers, including fourteen world premières.

While manifestly the festival seeks to showcase Portuguese talent, the programme also includes works by foreign composers such as Magnus Lindberg, Karlheinz Stockhausen, the Paris-based Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, Morton Subotnick, France's Tristan Murail and Philippe Leroux among others.

Festival venues are spread out all over the Portugese capital and include the Gulbenkian Foundation, the Franco-Portuguese Institute, the Jerónimos Monastery, the Maria Matos Theatre and the Belém Cultural Centre.
