DUTCH REALITY TV KIDNEY SHOW: HOAX REVEALED

NEW YORK, 1 JUNE 2007—When the first word of the Dutch reality TV show The Big Donor first filtered out, we sensed a possible connection to the hoaxing, media-jamming tradition of the Yes Men .

Now, today we learn that the show was in fact a hoax, specifically perpetrated to draw attention to the need for kidney donors and other organ donors. The contestants are in fact transplant patients awaiting donors, and the donor a healthy actress.

No doubt much chest-thumping and finger pointing will follow, as those taken in too completely and caught with their outrage showing have to explain why it took a move like this to get them exercised. This will no doubt fill another 24 hour news cycle .
