CHINA TAKES FIRST MEDAL AT ATHENS OLYMPICS

ATHENS, 14 August 2004—The very first Olympic title of the 2004 Games was awarded today in Athens. Li Du (People’s Republic of China), winner of the women’s air rifle, took her place at the top of the podium. In total, 13 Olympic titles in six different sports were awarded today, the first official day of the competitions in Athens.

The 28 sports of the Athens Games are formed by 37 disciplines. In total, 301 Olympic titles will be awarded during these Games of the XXVIII Olympiad.
