A CHORUS LINE IS BACK ON BROADWAY |
|
Staff Report NEW YORK, 10 October 2006—The new revival of A Chorus Line, Broadway's record-breaking musical, opened last week (5 October) at the Schoenfeld Theater in New York. In previews since 18 September, A Chorus Line is more a tale about landing a job than the shameless lust for fame that is so prevalent today. The Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical features a Broadway chorus dancer audition where a director demands 17 professional dancers to publicly share their most intimate memories and inner demons. At the end of the show, eight dancers are left standing on the stage. The ending brings back all the dancers in a glitzy song and dance number performed by the entire cast. Directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett with lyrics by Ed Kleban and music by Marvin Hamlisch, famous songs include At the Ballet, The Music and the Mirror, One and What I Did for Love .
The new production stars Ken Alan (Bobby), Brad Anderson (Don), Michael Berresse (Zach), Natalie Cortez (Diana), Charlotte d'Amboise (Cassie), Mara Davi (Maggie), Jessica Lee Goldyn (Val), Deidre Goodwin (Sheila), Tyler Hanes (Larry), James T. Lane (Richie), Paul McGill (Mark), Heather Parcells (Judy), Michael Paternostro (Greg), Alisan Porter (Bebe), Jeffrey Schecter (Mike), Yuka Takara (Connie), Jason Tam (Paul), Chryssie Whitehead (Kristine), and Tony Yazbeck (Al). In view of the heavy buzz and mostly enthusiastic reviews, visitors to the Big Apple should be aware that ticket sales are brisk for this revival. Gerald Schoenfeld Theater Book Tip: On the Line - The Creation of A Chorus
Line
On the Line relates the stories of the 19 original cast members. Robert Viagas, founder of Playbill-On-Line together with Baayork Lee, who is now choreographing the revival, and Thommie Walsh, detail how each cast member became a part of the show, shaped it through a workshop process, and what its success has meant for their lives and careers. For avid A Chorus Line fans. |
