In fact, the entire series of Janacek operas under the baton of Mackerras deserve inclusion, for the dedication and conviction which find expression in the singing and playing, for the work done on cleaning up the scores so that we are closer to the composer's intentions than the well-meaning emendations carried out in an earlier era. One should not, however, be afraid of listening to the earlier recordings for such interpretations as Marta Krasova's Kostelnicka or the contributions of Beno Blachut in a variety of tenorial assignments.
