The German-born Woflgang Tillmans is based in London and in 2000 – as the first foreign-born artist – won the most prestigious British art award: The Turner Prize.
While his work of the 90s constituted a sort of chronicle of the decade’s youth culture, his more recent, often abstract works, are considered by some to be of an almost classical beauty. The title of this exhibition refers to the many shots from above, down into everything – from night time views of Los Angeles to small plants growing in the artist’s windowbox. Because of these compositional and abstract qualities, his works seem penetrated by the same artistic vision.
