Ensemble Al Ol
Hailed as the father of modern Nubian music, Egyptian-born master oud player Hamza El Din unites the rich rhythmic vocal and drum aesthetic of his homeland with Arabic classical music, forging a new musical genre in the process. His legendary recording "Escalay: The Water Wheel" has become a classic. Kronos Quartet commissioned him to arrange "Escalay" for "Pieces of Africa" (1992). Composer, violinist, and oud player Yair Dalal leads the Ensemble Al Ol--a group of Israeli and Palestinian musicians.
