Referred to as Homo sapiens and Homo faber, man has also been described as Homo ludens, thus placing his ability to play and have fun on the same level as his ability to think, understand and create.
Through some 30 works of art - paintings, drawings and sculptures - from Museo del Prado, the Homo Ludens exhibition takes the visitor through the different ways in which people, in the past, have developed their leisure activities: inhabitants of Flamenco cities skating on frozen rivers; aristocrats preparing to take part in a hunt; and different phases of a bullfight are all on view, as well as how children from different times and social classes used to play.
