Glyndebourne's institutional status is certainly more stable than that of the theaters receiving subsidies. Its ventures into unusual repertory or its engagement of controversial producers no longer raise quite the number of hackles or eyebrows as used to be the case. New productions this year include "Iphigénie en Aulide" staged by Christoph Loy, conducted by Ivor Bolton, "Euryanthe" by Richard Jones, conducted by Marc Elder, "Carmen" staged by David McVicar, conducted by Philippe Jordan, with repeats of "Don Giovanni", "Katia Kabanova", and "Albert Herring".
