Edward Scissorhands: By Matthew Bourne
NEW YORK  •  BAM Howard Gilman Opera House  •  Ongoing

This witty gothic fairytale tells the story of a boy created by an eccentric inventor who dies leaving him alone and unfinished. Left with only scissors for hands, Edward must find his place in a strange new suburban world where the well meaning community struggle to see past his strange appearance to the innocence and gentleness within.

Known for bending the conventions of theater—from his all-male swan corps in Swan Lake to the dance-drama Play Without Words to his edgy choreography for Mary Poppins on Broadway—Matthew Bourne brings his re-imagining of Tim Burton's film, Edward Scissorhands (20th Century Fox) to New York from London where it enjoyed considerable success last season.
