The artistic world of Klee is a Magic Theatre (Zaubertheater, 1923,25), where the theatral fiction and the romantic impulse towards the mystery and the obscure are reflected in the Kleian “fictions” and in its symbolic figures, such as the magician and the demon.
This exhibition of more than 100 works by the Swiss artist is presented like a path focused on Klee’s phantastic world and divided into sections, where the main aspects of his thought and of his artistic procedure (for instance the relation with music and literature, or his interest for children’s or primitive art) are examined and compared with the art of some great protagonists of the fantastic art, such as Goya, Daumier, Ensorand Piranesi, or with traditional images belonging to the fantastic genre such as the Totentanz.
