Claude Lorrain: The Painter as Draftsmen: Drawings from the British Museum
WASHINGTON, DC  •  National Gallery of Art  •  Ongoing
Selected from the holdings of the British Museum, this exhibition includes more than 100 works—80 drawings and a selection of etchings and paintings—by Claude Lorrain (1604–1682), one of the greatest landscape artists and draftsmen of the 17th century. Born in Lorraine (now part of France), Claude spent most of his career in Italy, where he absorbed the beauty of the landscape and the splendor of classical ruins.
