Sylvester Schedrin and his Russian Contemporaries about Italy
ITALY
SORRENTO  •  Villa Fiorentino  •  Ongoing

Life and oeuvre of Sylvester Schedrin (1791-1830) were inseparably connected with Italy. Having graduated from the St Petersburg Academy of Arts, he came to Italy in September 1818. The artist worked in Rome, Naples, Amalfi, small towns on the shore of the Gulf of Naples, on Capri and Ischia. He is one of the most talented Russian landscapists, who have left a significant trace in the history of the world landscape painting.

The exhibition comprises 29 paintings by Sylvester Schedrin and 22 works by the artists of his circle: Karl and Alexander Brullov, Orest Kiprensky, Hovhannes Aivazovsky, Maxim and Sokrat Vorobyov, Alexander Ivanov, Mikhail Lebedev and Grigory and Nikanor Chernetsov. The show includes 45 significant drawings and watercolours by these masters, connected with Italy, Naples and its environs primarily.
