This show presents over 80 works from 55 public and private collections around the world. It attempts to trace the development and transformation of late 19th century still life painting - from the realism of Courbet to the shifting planes and volumes in the late work of Cézanne, which laid the groundwork for the cubism of Braque and Picasso in the 20th century. The exhibition features works by Cézanne, Caillebotte, Degas, Gaugin, Manet, Monet, Morisot, Pissarro, Renoir and van Gogh. The catalogue has been co-published by The Phillips Collection and Harry Abrams, Inc.
