On view only in Switzerland, this major retrospective includes a selection of over a hundred and thirty works underlining all the facets of Fantin-Latour’s art, and brings together pastels, drawings and lithographs, in addition to the many paintings. A historical and biographical section as well as numerous original visual documents are also on view. A major catalogue with colour reproductions of all the works presented in the exhibition has been published on this occasion. With the contribution of Juliane Cosandier, Elisabeth Hardouin-Fugier, Rudolf Koella, Rainer Michael Mason, Sylvie Patry, Nadia Schneider, Pierre Vaisse and Sylvie Wuhrmann.
The loans are from important French national collections such as the Musée d’Orsay and the Petit Palais in Paris, the Musée de Grenoble, the Musées des Beaux-arts in Bordeaux, Lyon, Pau and Tournai, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille, as well as from the United Kingdom, with loans from the Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle, the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, the Tate and the National Gallery in London and the Manchester Art Gallery, the National Gallery of Art in Washington in the United States, the Art Gallery of Hamilton in Canada, the Kunstmuseum in Basel, the Kunsthaus in Zurich, the Göteborg Museum of Art and the Staatliche Kunsthalle in Karlsruhe.
