Travel Tip: Art and Archaeology in Spain In the Shadow of Vesuvius
In the Shadow of Vesuvius SPAIN MADRID • Centro Cultural Conde Duque • Ongoing
On view is a collection of more than 70 original archaeological objects from Italy's National Archaelogical Museum in Naples. These were recovered from the ancient Roman towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum which were buried under lava following the eruption of the nearby Mt Vesuvius volcano in 79 AD. They include jewels, sculptures, bronzes, furniture, plaster casts of three victims of the eruption, and frescos which have been supplemented by graphic and audiovisual material for the exhibition.
