This exhibition of the work of the young Polish artist Wilhelm Sasnal presents a selection of the paintings and films produced by the artist over the last few years. Sasnal’s paintings emerge from themes drawn from chance photographs, family albums, films, the internet, comics, books, etc. Reference is made at the exhibition to the dominant contexts of his heterogeneous painting, for example, to the theme of pre-war modernism in relation to the Mościce district of his native Tarnów, the theme of the war and the holocaust, and also diverse elements from the life of the post-war People’s Republic of Poland, as well as contemporary elements shown through the depiction of banal reality or the ways in which this reality tends to be depicted symbolically.
