Compañía Nacional de Danza Nacho Duato, Choreography
Sleek, sexy, smart and a model large-scale dance company for the 21st century, Nacho Duato’s troupe from Spain is among the most revered and innovative groups in Europe. This San Francisco debut includes a US premiere: Gilded Goldbergs (2006) features Robin Holloway’s breakneck adaptation of Bach’s Goldberg Variations.
Performed to excerpts of Vivaldi choral works, Castrati is a spectacular dance, rife with furious ensemble movement and a harrowing finale in which eight men, dressed in black skirts and binding corsets, ambush a boy in white. Set to Spanish music from the Golden Age as well as poems of Garcilaso de la Vega, Por Vos Muero offers a modern take on the implicit, often furtive eroticism of court dance. The evening concludes with the US premiere of White Darkness, a dance that plumbs the depths of drug addiction.
