Cristina Ortiz, piano
Beethoven, Rachmaninov, Ravel, Vianna, Prokofiev
Cristina Ortiz was born in Brazil and began studies there before moving to Paris aged fifteen, to study with Magda Tagliaferro. A number of competition victories followed, most notably the Gold Medal at the third Van Cliburn competition (1969), before she settled in London where she is still based. Currently, Cristina divides her time between concerto and recital performances, teaching and masterclasses, and performing at chamber festivals worldwide with regular partners including Antonio Meneses, Dimitri Ashkenazy, and the Chilingirian Quartet. Her visceral connection with the music of her homeland is evident in her latest disc, Alma Brasileira, featuring the music of her favourite Brazilian composers.
