UNITED STATES PHILADELPHIA • The Navy Yard • 12 - 15 April 2008 |
 |
The Philadelphia Antiques Show features 50 leading antiques dealers and galleries from the northeast of the United States. For sale are quality examples of period furniture, folk and fine art, ceramics, porcelain, silver, jewelry and textiles.
In addition to the antiques fair, visitors can take in a loan exhibition entitled Fore & Aft – Philadelphia Collects Maritime. Curated by Craig Bruns of the Independence Seaport Museum, the show presents maritime art and antiques culled from public and private collections across the region. On view are paintings, sailor-made crafts, industrial maritime artifacts, and fragments, fixtures and fittings from historic vessels that have sailed the world. The artifacts, located, researched, and arranged by Independence Seaport Museum reveal insights into the seafaring lives of sailors, captains' roles as cultural and civic heroes, shipboard experiences of passengers and cargos, commodities traded via ocean routes around the world, and naval battle power.
