Democratic presidential contenders Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have been invited to hold a nationally televised debate in North Carolina. Senator Obama had accepted, and the network is awaiting word on whether Senator Clinton would participate.
CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric and political correspondent and Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer will moderate the April 19 TV debate. Its location has yet to be determined, although Wake Forest University has notified the N.C. Democratic Party that it would like to host the debate.
North Carolina with 134 delegates will vote on May 6. Indiana will also hold its primary that day.
Senator Obama is leading in pledged delegates 1,414 to 1,247. There are 10 primaries left, with North Carolina the second largest after Pennsylvania.
