Bray Jazz Festival returns for it's ninth year on the upcoming May Bank Holiday weekend. Headlining this year's festival is the grand-master of funk music - long time James Brown collaborator Maceo Parker and his Band, who will be joined by the award winning British trombonist and jazz funk champion Dennis Rollins.
Parker and his world beating jazz funk orchestra play a standing-room show at Mermaid Arts Centre on Saturday, 3rd May, while the other programmed shows for Bray's premier will be seated theatre shows featuring 'Mare Nostrum' (Friday 2nd) and France's legendary Orchestra National de Jazz with 'Close to Heaven', their tribute to Led Zeppelin, on Sunday, 4th May.
Alongside a host of top Irish, British and European players come some of the brightest and best innovators in contemporary music - including the brilliant Cuban drummer Dafnis Prieto (above) and his New York based sextet, the emerging young Cape Verdean singer Carmen Souza and her group, and the magical Canadian based Chinese pipa player, Liu Fang, Zahr (Italy), Havana Son avec David L'Esprit.The Electric Miles Davis
