The renowned French actress Fanny Ardant in an adaptation of Marguerite Duras's short story La Maladie de la Mort. In this one-woman show, Ardant plays a prostitute speaking directly to a man who has paid her to spend several days with him. The man suffers from an illness— he is incapable of loving or being loved.
Directed by Bérangère Bonvoisin, the play was sold out 30 times while staged in Paris. It was also a grand rendez-vous of the theatre season in New York earlier this month. As with Duras' other works, the theme of the play is love, hopelessness and distress.
