The Love Parade 2008

The Love Parade 2008
GERMANY
DORTMUND  •  various venues  •  Ongoing

The Love Parade did indeed make a triumphant return to Berlin in 2006, but it was a short-lived comeback as far as the capital was concerned at least. Berlin city authorities and event organisers couldn't come to an agreement in time and instead the LP signed up for a five year deal to be held in various cities of the industrial Ruhr district in the West of Germany. So no Berlin bacchanalia in 2008, but rather the debauchery moves to Dortmund.

The Loveparade is hugely popular, attracting some of the biggest DJs and revelers from around the world spanning all facets of electronic music. Fifty-one different floats create a cacophony of beats.

Electronic dance music

Early in the 1980s in Chicago an exclusively electronic beat was created and mixed for the first timeó"House" disco music was born, as named after the discothèque the Warehouse. After the mid 1980s "Detroit Techno" emerged from this, and its monotone beat builds the basis for all of the different styles of electronic music known today: Acid, Trance, Goa, Electro, and many more.

The music played at the Loveparade always represents the latest developments in the international electronic music scene. The sounds heard at the Loveparade represent a cross-section of the world's top acts from the electronic dance music scene.

The line-up at the concluding demonstration reflects the "who is who" of the electronic music scene. International DJs, local heroes from the trendiest clubs and talented rising artists go to work on the trucks and gather at the concluding demonstration to play a gigantic set. The closing event also has live acts.

Moby has confirmed his appearance for 2008. Other top headliners include Underworld, David Guetta, Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren, Digitalism, Richie Hawtin, Westbam, Carl Craig, DJ Hell, M.A.N.D.Y., Anja Schneider, Felix Kröcher
