Travel Tip: Art and Archaeology in United Arab Emirates
The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Series

As part of the first programme presented under the banner of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, a group of famous artists, curators, collectors and academics convene at the Emirati Expressions exhibition (on view until 16 April 2009 and curated by Anne Baldassari, Director of the Musée National Picasso in Paris and former Curator of the Musée National d'Art Moderne at the Centre Pompidou) of artworks by 64 local artists in the United Arab Emirates presenting a diverse range of works in a variety of mediums: Painting, photography, sculpture, graphic design, video work, short films, installations, calligraphy.  

In a series of presentations and panel discussions, the celebrity art stars seek to explore the role and aims of the new Guggenheim Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island, the effect of art institutions on artist development and aspects of contemporary art today. Presentations by Jeff Koons, Mona Hatoum, James Turell, Anish Kapoor, Dennis Hopper, Cai Guo Qiang, Peter Sloterdijk, Anselm Kiefer, Carmen Gimenez, Sir Norman Rosenthal, Rokni Haerizadeh, Thomas Krens, Germano Celant among others.
