René Lalique: A Retrospective

René Lalique: A Retrospective
TOKYO  •  The National Art Center  •  Ongoing

The work of René Lalique (1860 - 1945) commanded the respect of his colleagues and contemporaries and the admiration of the public, and he is still a household name today. As a jeweler and designer, Lalique’s consistently innovative work altered and influenced the horizons of Art Nouveau, blending applied arts, poetry, painting and literature, and making a substantial contribution to the design revolution of the late 19th century.  Later in the early 20th century, after making perfume bottles for perfume manufacturer FrancÚoise Coty, Lalique took up glass making.

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the artist's birth, the exhibition brings together some 400 art pieces from both Japan and abroad.
