Vinicio Capossela was born in Hanover, Germany, in 1965. His first album All’una e trentacinque circa (1990) earned him the Tenco Award for best debut album. A series of records followed (Modì, 1991; Camera a sud, 1994; Il ballo di San Vito, 1996; Liveinvolvo, 1998; Canzoni a manovella, 2000, Tenco Award 2001; L’indispensabile, 2003; Ovunque proteggi, Tenco Award 2006 and Nel niente sotto il sole, 2006; Da solo, 2008 and his latest Solo show alive, released on 13 November 2009), which gradually expanded his fanbase.
In 2004 his first novel came out, Non si muore tutte le mattine. His readings to present to book became an actual theatrical show titled Voci, echi e visioni da Non si muore tutte le mattine, while pages from the book gave birth to a new radio experiment titled Radiocapitolazioni, which was broadcast on Radiotre in November 2004. Two other radio works are of particular importance: the adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and the original radio-tale I cerini di Santo Nicola – Racconto infiammabile per voci, suoni e canzoni, both made and broadcast by Radiodue during the Christmas holidays. In 2009 Vinicio released his book In Clandestinita, Mr Pall Incontra Mr Mall, a literary meeting in the form of a boxing round, written together with poet Vincenzo Costantino “Cinaski”, which spawned a series of “boxing” readings held at some important literature events (Massenzio Letteratura, Genoa Poetry Festival).
The year 2009 ends with the release of Vinicio Capossela’s dvd+cd titled Solo Show Alive (directed by Gianfranco Firriolo), which documents his most recent tour in theatres.
