Nicodemus Tessin the Younger – Royal Architect and Visionary SWEDEN STOCKHOLM • Nationalmuseum • Ongoing
Nicodemus Tessin the Younger (1654–1728) was the leading Swedish architect of his time and played a significant historical role as court architect to both Karl XI and Karl XII. Stockholm’s Royal Palace is his masterpiece, and as a radical town-planner in 18th-century Stockholm, he is still visibly important for the appearance of the Swedish capital. Tessin also designed a large number of other palaces, churches and gardens for both Swedish and foreign dukes and nobles. The exhibition also marks Stockholm’s 750th anniversary and has a rich selection of Tessin’s own sketches and drawings as well as books, copper-plate engravings and drawings from his own large art collection.
