Abstraction in Europe: a German collector’s choice
SAINT-PAUL DE VENCE  •  Fondation Maeght  •  Ongoing
Revealed for the first time in France, this ambitious collection gathers 80 artworks (paintings, drawings and sculptures) and other work which shows the different facets of geometrical abstraction during the first half of the 20th century. More than 30 artists are represented, a majority of whom are Russian (Kandinsky, Malevich, Tatlin, Rodchenko, Popova, Goncharova) and from Eastern Europe (Kupka, El Lissitzky). The flight of many of these artists under the Nazi regime helped to bring about the international reputation of geometric abstraction.
