AfroCubism: Mali meets Cuba
In 1997 the album Buena Vista Social Club was a huge hit worldwide and made Ibrahim Ferrer an international star. Originally, Ali Farka Touré and his Malian musicians were due to take part in those now legendary recording sessions - but they got no further than the airport because of visa problems. The original idea behind the album has now been revived, bringing together Eliades Ochoa, one of the last survivors of the Club, and his Cuarteto Patria, on the one hand, and an array of Malians, including the renowned kora maestro Toumani Diabaté, on the other.
