Sónar is the festival of advanced music and new media art that takes place at various venues in Barcelona in the third week of June.
Created in 1994, Sónar brings together a range of culture that combines entertainment with artistry, the avant garde and experimentation, featuring artists and trends in electronic music and their interactions and hybridisations with other genres.
The festival programme is divided between the activities at Sónar by Day (concerts, showcases, professional zone, exhibition area), the keynote of which is the search for new talent, and the major shows at Sónar by Night, which presents the leading names on the international music landscape.
For the 2012 edition, Sónar Barcelona presents techno, house, and dubstep artists including The Roots, deadmau5, Hot Chip, Modeselektor, James Blake dj, Fatboy Slim, Richie Hawtin, Amon Tobin’s ISAM, Squarepusher, Nicolas Jaar, Luciano, Azari & III, Jacques Lus Cont, Die Antwoord, Friendly Fires, Metronomy, John Talabot, Mouse On Mars, BBC Radio 1 presents Annie Mac & guests and showcases from Hyperdub, Brainfeeder and 100% Silk, among others.
Parallel events in cultural venues in the city include an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
