Travel Tip: Art and Archaeology in United States Common / Places
Common / Places: Contemporary Photography from Germany and Northern Europe UNITED STATES BALTIMORE • The Baltimore Museum of Art • Ongoing
Common/Places focuses on the familiar places of everyday life—faceless buildings, anonymous street corners, and domestic interiors—that are transformed into compelling, large-scale works by some of the most important contemporary photographers. Thirteen works include a grid of water tower images by Bernd and Hilla Becher (best known for their stark photographs of industrial architecture), a vivid color portrait from Rineke Dijkstra’s beach series, and a series of close-up photolithographs of a painting’s surface by Gerhard Richter.
