Los Angeles-based Ed Ruscha is one of the most influential artists of the last forty years, known for his pioneering use of language and for imagery drawn from popular culture.
His name is synonymous with the Californian landscape: highways, gas stations, parking lots, street signs, palm trees, apartment blocks, billboards and the false glitz of Hollywood are referred to repeatedly in his art.
LACMA's collection includes more than 300 works by Ruscha. This exhibition highlights generous donations of the artist's work over the years, and coincides with LACMA’s Fall 2012 Art + Film gala, honoring Ed Ruscha and Stanley Kubrick.
