| Pianist Jacky Terrasson first began receiving notice as among jazz’s most promising young artists soon after he won the prestigious Thelonious Monk Piano Competition (1993) and recorded his self-titled debut (1994).
While Terrasson was turning heads working with such top-notch vocalists as Betty Carter, Dianne Reeves, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jimmy Scott (arranging the tunes and performing on the singer’s 1996 album Heaven) and Cassandra Wilson (the pair co-led the 1997 Blue Note release Rendezvous), he was also making an impact with his solo career—recording a series of critically acclaimed discs: Reach (1995), Alive (1998) and What It Is (1999). The bandleader, composer, arranger and formidable piano player has been reaping plaudits throughout his career. His latest is a collection of French standards, A Paris, his fifth release on Bluenote Records.
