Travel Tip: Art and Archaeology in Italy
Paul Klee and Italy

Paul Klee and Italy
ROME  •  Galleria d’Arte Moderna  •  Ongoing
Paul Klee, born and dead in Bern, though of German citizenship and education, loved the South like many other artists from Northern Europe did. Italy, in particular, played a decisive role in his life and his art. Mediterranean, therefore, became not only a destination for his vacations, but also an inspiration source for his artistic turning points and theoretical reflections. If the scholarship has long since identified his journeys - to Tunis in 1914 and to Egypt in winter 1928-29 – as the two most influential destinations from the very artistic and theoretical point of view, the artist’s many travels to Italy are all to be studied in depth. Klee’s relationship with our country has not been the object of a systematic analysis yet. This is exactly what this exhibition curated by Tulliola Sparagni and Mariastella Margozzi aims to carry out.
