Nigerian drummer Tony Allen created the heartbeat in the legendary Afrobeat orchestras of saxophone player and revolutionary Fela Kuti. In 1984 Allen migrated to London and has been playing in countless boundary shifting bands ever since. For example, this year he collaborated in a project with Blur singer Damon Albarn and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea.
