Anri Sala was born in Albania in 1974, was educated in France and lives in Berlin. He has exhibited internationally since he participated in Manifesta 3, the European biennial for contemporary art, in 2000. In 2013 he represents France at the Biennale in Venice.
Anri Sala works with films where music and sound are the central elements in the narrative dramaturgy. With precisely planned overlaps and discontinuities the works enter into dialogue with one another, and the use of music and sound helps to structure the experience. In addition repetition, rhythm and pauses have both visual and auditory significance.
The artist’s range of themes encompasses political reality and personal relations.
