The Music of Nina Simone
UNITED STATES NEW YORK • The Allen Room • 7 - 8 December 2012 |
 |
Equipped with a 3½-octave range that can switch from operatic to gritty blues, San Francisco-based vocalist Kim Nalley has all the tools to convey the intense message of the great diva Nina Simone, as she demonstrated on the 2006 Grammy-nominated CD She Put a Spell on Me. Featured guest and master saxophonist James Carter, a specialist in transforming his arsenal of horns into an analog for the human voice, will provide apropos obbligatos and counter statements. The performance also features pianist Tammy Hall, bassist Michael Zisman, drummer Kent Bryson, and guitarist Greg Skaff.
