Written in 1745, Belshazzar stands along Messiah as one of Handel's great Biblical oratorios. The story comes from the book of Daniel, which recounts the fall of Babylon at the hands of the Persian prince Cyrus — thus bringing Belshazzar's tyrannical oppression of the Jews to an end.Les Arts Florissants
