Ibrahim Maalouf, trumpet
Born in 1980, Ibrahim Maalouf escaped with his family from the civil war in Lebanon to Paris, where he completed his studies in classical music. A trumpeter with an openness to classical music, Arab folk music, funk and jazz alike, Maalouf has collaborated with figures in pop and world music such as Sting, Lhasa de Sela and the duo of Amadou & Mariam. In the past five years, however, and with his distinctive quarter-tone trumpet, he has become one of the most prominent representatives of modern Arab ethno-jazz through his own albums: Diasporas, Diachronism and Diagnostic.
